What is the purpose of Metal music

As a long-time musician, I have a problem with a lot of metal music. So much of it is screaming and growling. It tends to be loud, maxed out volume, guitars, and little melody for the words.

Metal doesn''t seem to be written to be danced to. Instead, it seems to be something that you listen to. I agree that there have been some bands that have done "metal" and made it almost musical.

On the guitar, metal is just what they call chugging. And, while that''s OK sometimes, having a whole song, or worse, a whole set of songs with chugging the whole time, is mind-dumbing.

Go ahead, tell me how I''m wrong.
