I''ve been a musician for decades. I stopped performing in bands a while ago and now just write and record music at home. When I talk to people aboujt music I''ll typically ask what their favorite style of music is.
Sometimes, a person says "rap." OK, I say. The I say, "can you hum or sing the melody of any rap song (and I use "song" here loosly)?
When they can''t, I say, "Then it''s not music. If t has no melody, it''s not music.
If you ask Google the question "what is rap music" it will reply with:
Rap music is a genre of popular music featuring rhythmic, rhyming speech (or chanted over a musical backing, typically with a strong beat.
So what about that definition implies that rap is music? If I wanted to hear rhyming I''d listen to poetry.
So, here''s my challenge to you rap lovers. Explain to me how rap is in any way "music."
