In the last 5 years, I''ve purchased 4 Klipsch subwoofers, and they''ve all died except for the last one. I''ve actually replaced one of them twice. I''ve always used Klipsch but have concluded that, while their cabinets and speakers are very good, the amps they use are crap and made with cheap parts. Hence, they don''t last long.

In each case, it''s been the amp that dies. Unless you''re willing to spend $1000 or more, you do not get quality ampos.

So, this last time, I bought a new subwoofer amp from Parts Express and switched out the subwoofer amp myself. Since a new subwoofer would have cost from $400 to $600, buying a replayment amp for $167 plus tax and free shipping seemed to make sense.

I just finished the retrofit and tested it out. It sounds just like the old original. The one thing I noticed, though, was that I had to turn the amp up all the way to get the same volume. It''s not a big deal, just a difference.

So now I''ll sit back and enjoy my subwoofers and see how long the retrofit works without any issues. I''d love to hear from others who may have had similar problems with subs.
